Track 16 - 16th of April (Polypipe Duduk & Phil Griffin on oud, electric bass & baglama)
This is the first of a number of tracks where I invite a friend to join me in creating a piece of music. Once again it all has to happen on the same day. For this track I invited my longtime close friend, music colleague and extraordinary musician Philip Griffin. We've known each other for a long while, sharing a house in the early eighties in Perth and playing together in bands like Makedonski Bop and The Balkanics. On this track Phil plays oud, electric bass and baglama (the little Greek variety).
We did it remotely with me in Maleny and Phil in Brisbane. I wrote a melody in D Hijaz and recorded it playing my polypipe duduk (same instrument as on track 15) I also laid down a percussion track using the Drumjam iOS app. I shared the track with Phil via DropBox and he added oud, electric bass and baglama. The whole process took 8 hours. Thanks Phil, I love this track that we created, especially what you brought to it.
