Track 1 - April Fool's Day. (Nawar Athar clarini and Rainforest Birds)
It’s April Fools day 5.45am and the first day of this project. I’m going to start this album with something simple and improvised. Over the last few months I’ve been making some early morning recordings, playing various wind instruments that I’ve made over a drone and with the birdlife in Mary Cairncross rainforest (15 minutes walk from where we live). I thought this would be a nice gentle introspective beginning for this month of recordings. On this track I’m playing a clarini (folk clarinet) that I have made from Gidgee (Acacia Cambagei) tuned to the Arabic mode of Nawar Athar. I’m recording using an iPad and the Cubasis multitrack recording app. Strangely enough I have discovered that I get a great sound just using the iPad’s own internal omni—directional microphone which picks up the rainforest birds and my instrument really well. Let’s go!
Later:
I've just finished recording and my favourite part is the little guest performer at the end – a mosquito lands on the microphone and sings a short solo.
